Sheldon Calvary Camp is a Christian summer camp for children, youth, and adults.
It is a ministry dedicated to the lives of campers who come each year for recreation and spiritual growth in an environment filled with the love of Jesus Christ.
It is a place where children both discover and renew their spiritual lives in Christian community and carry that sense of grace away with them.
It is a place where children come to understand and care for one another in their diversity.
It is a place alive with a contagious spirit of joy and love.
General Description: Calvary Camp is a general activities camp for kids looking to have fun every day in an environment that teaches community-building and models acceptance of differences. The campers live in cabins of 8 or 9 children with a counselor, and participate in activities that include horse riding, sailing, tennis, sports, crafts, archery, swimming, and a low ropes course.
Safety: Camper safety is the number one concern at Calvary Camp. A Registered Nurse is on campus as a member of the staff whenever camp is in session. All staff members undergo a thorough orientation to review and drill safety and emergency procedures, and nearly all are certified in Red Cross First Aid and CPR. All water activities are supervised by Certified Lifeguards.
Finally, Calvary Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association, a national organization that establishes safety and best-practice standards for camps.
Location: Conneaut, Ohio, on the shore of Lake Erie. We are located approximately 2.5 hours north of Pittsburgh, Pa, and 1 hour east of Cleveland, Ohio.
Affiliation: Calvary Camp is a ministry of the Episcopal Church. However, we welcome campers and staff members of all denominations and faiths.
Campers: Approximately 180 campers, boys and girls aged 8 -16, attend Calvary Camp each week in the summer. Most children come for one week only; some come for two or even more weeks. Over 1,000 children attend Calvary Camp each year. Additionally, the final two weeks of the summer are designated as Family Camp for the enjoyment of parents and children together.
Camp Staff: Typically 50-60 staff members aged 18 - 29 serve in the capacity of camp counselors, the vast majority of whom were formerly Calvary Campers themselves. There are three Camp Directors who are professional adults and have combined experience leading Calvary Camp for over 75 years.
Dates of Camp Operation: June 21 - August 22. The camp facilities are available for retreats, conferences, reunions, and other events during the months of May, September, and October outside of the camping season dates.
